Are you ready to get lost in a zombie maze? Or maybe feeling like it’s a good week to get physical? This week is filled with laughs for charity, Breakfast with Bob the Builder, and a battle of the food trucks. Most importantly there are some special events happening to commemorate the tragedy of September 11th. Enjoy a week reflecting on the past, while celebrating your life and freedom.

Tuesday, September 11th

9/11 Commemoration Ceremony

The Nixon Library will be commemorating the 11th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on September 11th with a special ceremony starting at 11am. The event will begin in the White House East Room where remarks will be made by Major General Melvin Spiese, Commanding General of the 1st Expeditionary Brigade, followed by a presentation of the colors by the U.S. Marines.

Parents have a special opportunity to teach their children about the historic significance of tragedies of September 11th at this special ceremony. The event will include a craft and story time of the book “What Happened Today?” by Yvonne Conte, which tells the event from the perspective of a young child. The activities will be at 11 am, and are included with the price of admission to the museum.

Stand Up Comedy Night for Autism

Benefitting the charity Autism Speaks, some of the best comedians will be performing on September 12th at 8:30pm. Ticket $20 per person, and includes free parking. There will be a full bar and great food to be enjoyed. The event will be accepting cash and checks only, no credit cards.

Thursday, September 13th

Ultimate Battle of the Food Trucks

It will be a battle of the food trucks during this tour inspired by Food Network’s The Great Food Truck Race show. Participating food trucks include The Lime Truck and Sky’s Gourmet Tacos. Who will win? Find out when the showdown begins at 4pm.

The popular Lobster Festival is coming to the San Pedro Harbor on September 14th, 15th and 16th. Located just 20 minutes south of downtown LA, there will be music, entertainment and fun for the entire family. Tickets are available at the event for $10 per adult, and children under the age of 12 are free. Cash only, and admission does not include a lobster meal. A world famous lobster meal can be purchased for an additional $19.

Help support California Greenworks mission of helping to “green” Los Angeles while enjoying a live Jazz concert. The event starts at 10am, and tickets are available starting at $20 for lawn seating, $40 for box seating, $60 for table VIP seating, and children under the age of 12 are free.

The Los Angeles Convention Center will be taken over by Sci-fi lovers for this exhilarating pop-culture convention. There will be celebrity appearances, an Elvira Macabre museum, vendors, and a Harry Potter-style Quidditch Tournament. The event is open to the public on Saturday, September 15th from 10am to 7pm and Sunday, September 16th from 10am to 6pm. Tickets are $20 per day and complimentary for children under the age of 12.

Be one of the first families to enjoy the new Bob the Builder exhibit, Bob the Builder – Project: Build It, opening at the Discovery Science Center while enjoying breakfast with Bob. Breakfast will be served from 8am to 9pm, and the first 250 kids will get a free yellow construction hat. Photo opportunities will be available with Bob the Builder during the special breakfast. Tickets are available online for $14.95 per adult and $12.95 per child.

Let’s get physical while learning about ways to live a healthy lifestyle. Start off the day by participating in the family 5k fun run before zooming over to a Zumba class. Health questions can be answered by some of the top health expects including Cesar Romero, Jennifer Cohen, Adam Ernster and more. Bring the children along to climb rocks walls, jump in bounces or to participate in the kids 1K. The admission is free to the public and will be happening from 7am to 5pm.
